My Wild Bangkok 3 Day Itinerary: Temples, Markets & a Floating World
Bangkok in 3 days: temples, markets, chaos, and hidden local gems.

If you’ve ever found yourself in Bangkok with a free weekend and absolutely no idea where to start, trust me, I’ve been there. The city can feel like a beautiful beast, overflowing with street food, golden temples, and tuk-tuks weaving through motorbike traffic like it’s a dance.
But it’s also where I lived and studied for a while. And during one spontaneous weekend, I decided to do it all. What followed was a whirlwind, slightly chaotic, and absolutely unforgettable Bangkok 3 day itinerary.
I’m Aiden Orso, writing for Toristy, an international supplier of authentic tours and local experiences. Toristy doesn’t just list trips they talk to local guides, ride in their tuk-tuks, eat at their favorite food stalls, and collect real stories along the way. And this one’s mine.
Day 1: The Train That Goes Through a Market (Yes, Really) & the Floating World of Damnoen Saduak
Bangkok mornings are best started early especially if you're headed to the famous Maeklong Railway Market, where a train literally barrels through the middle of a working market. If you’ve seen it on Instagram, trust me, it’s even wilder in real life.
I caught it just in time to watch the locals pull back their umbrellas and produce seconds before the train screeched past. It’s chaotic. It’s brilliant. It’s pure Thailand.
Not far from there is Damnoen Saduak, arguably Thailand’s most iconic floating market. As you can probably tell I’m a floating market fanboy. There’s something magical about watching boats glide past each other, piled high with mangoes, grilled skewers, and handmade souvenirs.
To understand Thailand, you have to understand its relationship with water. For centuries, canals were lifelines linking communities, transporting food, and shaping daily life. I even shared a bench with a monk. Okay, he was really 3 benches down. Either way, an iconic moment.

These places are more than tourist attractions they’re living heritage. And if you’d rather not stress over buses and boat queues, a local-guided tour makes the day way easier.
Day 2: Temples, Tuk-Tuks & Almost Getting Scammed
Bangkok’s temple circuit is legendary. If you haven’t seen Wat Traimit, Wat Pho, and Wat Arun, you haven’t really seen the city.
I started at Wat Traimit, home to a massive golden Buddha that was once thought to be plaster until someone accidentally dropped it and discovered solid gold inside. That’s peak Bangkok energy right there.
But the real spiritual hit came at Wat Pho, the Temple of the Reclining Buddha. It’s golden, serene, and massive. I spent half an hour just watching people walk around in awe. What struck me most was how temples here still pulse with life. They’re not just historic relics; they’re active places of prayer, community—and you’ll see that when you go.
Of course, Bangkok wouldn’t be Bangkok without a little drama. Outside Wat Pho, a guy in a Hawaiian shirt flashed a plastic badge at me:
“Dangerous people around here,” he said. “Come talk to me.”
Curious, I played along and he asked where I was staying.
“I live here, near Rama 9 Mall.”
Instant face drop he didn’t like that response. Scam over.
Tip: If anyone flashes a badge while wearing board shorts, walk the other way. Or if you’re like me, talk to him but stay on the main road at least.
From there, I took a ferry across the Chao Phraya to Wat Arun, which lit up beautifully in the late afternoon. Climbing its steep staircase gave me one of the best skyline views I’ve ever seen.

Day 3: Walking the City Like a Local
No itinerary is complete without a day of just… walking. Wandering. Absorbing the vibe.
So on Day 3, I put away plans and just let my feet guide me. From hidden alleyways and neighborhood parks to mega-malls like Siam Paragon and Terminal 21, Bangkok unfolds layer by layer when you walk it.
One of my favorite moments? Randomly playing a pickup game of basketball at a neighborhood court. We couldn’t all speak the same language but no one needed to. Just passes and laughter.

Why This Itinerary Works (And How Toristy Can Help)
What made this weekend so special wasn’t just the destinations. It was the people the vendors, monks, ferry drivers, and even the scam artists (weirdly enough). The city has magic. It’s just being part of it. I had time to make mistakes, ask locals for help, and find my way. But if you’re short on time or want a smoother trip, Toristy makes it easy to connect with guides who live this every day. They’ll know when the train hits Maeklong, which noodle boat is best, and how to time your temple visits to dodge the crowds.

Final Thoughts
This Bangkok 3 day itinerary wasn’t about ticking boxes it was about diving headfirst into the buzz, flavor, and energy of one of the most unforgettable cities in the world. Whether you're dodging trains, floating past curry vendors, getting blessed by monks, or (mildly) scammed by beach-shirt badge guys, Bangkok always keeps it interesting.
And with a little help from Toristy, your story can be just as wild and a lot easier to plan.
