This is the creation of Thai artist Chalermchai Kositpipat, who designed, constructed, and opened it to visitors in 1997. Continue to Wat Huay Pla Kang, a temple complex that was constructed recently. A giant statue of Kuan Im, the goddess of Mercy, can be seen from afar. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch we will drive to Ban Apha, an Akha village not far from Chiang Rai. The Akha are the most numerous tribal group in Chiang Rai province. Their traditional dress is absolutely stunning. Especially the headdress of the women is exquisite and very recognizable. Their embroidery though is also of great beauty. If you want to dress up as an Akha.

You will help the Akha people prepare a typical Akha delicacy. It is a fun activity. You will also hear the story of the recent history of the village. After we have consumed our Akha delicacy we drive to a pretty, nearby waterfall. Then it is time to return to Chiang Rai. Before we drop you off at the hotel we will stop at Wat Rong Suea Ten (Temple of the dancing tiger, literally), also known as the Blue Temple. It is of stunning beauty. 

Thailand's Doi Inthanon National Park is well-known for its clean air, stunning plants and animals, waterfalls, hill tribes, and picturesque vistas. The Wachirathan waterfall, twin pagodas with stunning vistas, and Thailand's highest point are all located in the park. A two-hour trek on the Kew Mae Pan route with a guide from the local hill tribe is the day's highlight. The White Karen hill tribe hamlet and the Hmong hill tribe market, where the hill tribes are well-known for their coffee manufacturing, are also located in the park. It is recommended that visitors pack warm clothes because of the lower temperatures.

One of the most unique places in Chiang Mai, Thailand is called Bua Tong or the Sticky Waterfalls. Located about an hour and a half drive north of Chiang Mai’s Old City, these waterfalls are not only impressive and gorgeous, but a special feature allows you to climb directly up the rocks into the oncoming cascading water.

Waterfalls are notoriously slippery. One usually goes down a waterfall thanks to gushing waters and slick surfaces. So how is it possible to climb up the Sticky Waterfalls?

The Sticky Waterfalls get their name from a mineral deposit that is incredibly grippy. In fact, the rocks feel like a hardened sponge. They are callous and even slightly prickly to the touch but surprisingly give a bit under pressure. Since no algae or slime adheres to the rocks, they are the perfect canvas to climb up the waterfall. It is impressively steep in some places, but with the aid of the limestone deposits on the stones, we felt like Spider-Man!

4 Day Expedition From Bangkok to Angkor Wa

The majestic limestone karsts made famous by the 1974 James Bond movie The Man with the Golden Gun, remain one of Thailand and Phang Nga’s famous landmarks. If you’ve ever wanted to see the stunning cliffs up close, join this full day tour by longtail boat for an epic adventure! Our driver will meet you at your hotel at 0800. Today you will visit the organic coffee farm Suan Lahu in Doi Saket district.

You will drive past Doi Saket town and onwards to the Mae Kachan Hot Springs. Just before the hot springs, we will turn right and head into the mountains toward Chaesorn National Park. We have time for photo-stops at one of the flower nurseries. After arrival at Suan Lahu, you will be received by your native hosts, who will brief you on Suan Lahu and organic coffee growing. A local Lahu guide will take you around the 80 rai (12 hectares) coffee plantation of which 60 are planted with Arabica coffee and fruit trees. Forest makes up for the remaining 20 rai. Views are amazing.

Having seen lychee, lemon and avocado trees, amongst others, you will have time to engage your first volunteer activity. There are several seasonal activities possible at the farm, ranging from taking care of farm animals (pigs and chicken), freeing the plants from strangulating vines, to grading, roasting, and harvesting the coffee beans. This will keep you busy until lunchtime. Enjoy a vegetarian, home-made lunch prepared by your Lahu hosts. 

After lunch, you will visit the Lahu Sheleh community. A sub-group of the Black Lahu, they are an ethnic minority originating from the Tibet/China border area. We will show you some old pictures of the Lahu from yesteryear and show you around Doi Mod, the community located next to the organic coffee farm. After this, we will head back to the farm for the afternoon’s activity which can be one of your choosing. You can join local villagers working at the farm on a seasonal basis, or support Suan Lahu project founders in their natural and cultural restoration activities. At around 16:00 you will say goodbye to your hosts after an active, educational and fun day full of enjoyable activities, fresh air, healthy food, and most delicious coffee. Drive back to Chiang Mai.
