Were the sky not blue in Lanzarote, you'd think you were on the Moon or Mars. They're both a bit far away but Lanzarote is just 30 minutes by boat from Fuerteventura, which is a short time to travel for an otherworldly experience. You'll visit Timanfaya National Park, El Golfo and a winery – all in one day.

After an early pick-up, we'll go to the port to board the ferry to Playa Blanca. The action starts straight away with a visit to Timanfaya National Park, which is home to a third of the island's 100 volcanoes. Admire eerie landscapes of fantastic forms in shades maroon, red, grey and black. You'll also be treated to a few party tricks courtesy of the geothermic earth below you.

On the park's coastal edge, head to El Golfo to see the green lagoon at the back of a black beach and the nearby Hervideros cliffs. They were formed by molten lava pouring into the sea. There's a stop to learn all about the benefits of aloe vera. Rounding off the day is a wine tasting in La Geria.

The fun kicks off with a boat trip around Mahon harbour. At 5km long, it's one of the world's largest natural harbours. It's fringed by historic buildings, fortifications and dotted with islands. Nicola adds, ‘Reminders of the century-long British rule are still visible to this day – you can see sash and bow windows, door latches and handles just as you would in the UK.'

Next, you'll journey along the coastal road to Binibeca. This fairytale-like village is packed with narrow alleys of sugar-cube houses that cascade down to the harbour. Just a little further east along the coast is the Cova d'en Xoroi, a cave set in a cliff face. Sip on a drink as you take in the sea views from Menorca's coolest bar. To round off the day, step back in time at the 3,000-year-old Torralba d'en Salord megalithic archaeological site, famed for big its dolmen-like rocks. This grand tour of Lanzarote leaves no stone unturned. ‘You'll unearth the secrets of this volcanic island through the eyes of someone who has made it their home,' says Daria, one of our expert guides. Discover the island's spectacular green north and the volcanic south, visiting Timanfaya National Park, Jameos del Agua caves and a winery along the way.

First up is a glass-bottom boat trip in Mahon harbour – the second largest in the world. Glide between fortified islets and admire the opulent villas lining the waterfront on either side. Some date from the 18th century, when Menorca was a British colony. Next, it's on to the old Xoriguer gin distillery for a guided visit. Menorca's favourite tipple has been made here, using the same recipe, since 1736 – yet another symbol of the island's British heritage.

There's also free time to wander around Mahon under your own steam, admiring its Georgian townhouses, baroque churches, palm-lined squares and narrow, cobbled streets. Head to the centrally located Plaça del Carme, where there's a market for vendors hawking everything from cured meats to fresh fruit under the cloisters of a 17th-century convent.
