Little Bear's winter trail - snowshoe excursion in Oulanka National Park

Description

Step into the snowy wilderness of Oulanka National Park, a pristine Arctic haven filled with stunning natural beauty. Oulanka is home to icy rapids, towering snowy cliffs, and serene forests that feel like they’ve been pulled from a fairytale. The park’s heart beats with the rhythm of the Kitkajoki River, its clear waters flowing powerfully even in the depths of winter, framed by snow-covered trees.

The Pieni Karhunkierros Trail (Little Bear’s Trail) takes us to the southernmost part of this iconic park. This scenic day trail is one of the gems of Oulanka, offering breathtaking views at every turn. You’ll follow a snowshoe trail along the riverbanks and through the peaceful winter forest.

Highlights of the Little Bear’s Winter Trail:

  • Admire the beauty of icy rapids, steep snowy cliffs, and sheltered Arctic forests.
  • Walk across two suspension bridges, surrounded by the wintery wilderness.
  • Enjoy a trail meal by a campfire halfway through the walk. Keep your eyes open for Siberian Jays swooping in for a visit or playful otters along the riverbanks.
  • The trail is moderate, with one steeper section, but we’ll take it slow and steady to ensure everyone enjoys the experience.

This is more than just a hike—it’s a chance to connect with nature at its most beautiful. As you trek along the 10 km snowshoe trail, you’ll feel the serenity and magic of the wintery Oulanka. And don’t forget your camera—every second step is a postcard-worthy moment.
