Freetour Santiago de Compostela

Description
The first and original free walking tour in Santiago de Compostela takes you through the most monumental area of Santiago’s old town, the key to unveil the city at the end of the Camino.
The visit starts at the very end of the seven Ways or Caminos, the Obradoiro Square, where we will introduce both the tour and the city. The foundation of Santiago in the Middle Ages, the discovery of Saint James mausoleum and the subsequent development of Santiago throughout the centuries have turned the city into one of the most important Catholic pilgrimage destinations in the world.
From the starting point at the Obradoiro Square we will continue our stroll through the most famous squares of Santiago (Inmaculada, Quintana, Platerías, Fonseca) heading to the Alameda Park, the Faculty of History and the mercado de abastos or food market.
How did Saint James get to Compostela? Who was the first pilgrim of the Camino? What is the purpose of the botafumeiro? What is a castro?
These and many other questions will be answered throughout the visit, and you will discover many curiosities about Santiago de Compostela and Galicia while witnessing first-hand how time has left its mark in the cobbled streets of the city. At the end of the visit, we will give you all the gastronomic and leisure recommendations that you may need to visit Santiago and its surroundings. And you are free to pay as much as you want.
