Tour Description:
Day 1 – Denpasar / Labuan Bajo / Rinca Island / Kalong Island
Once your plane lands safely at Komodo Airport in Labuan Bajo to the west of Flores, you will be greeted by your tour guide who will show you around Flores. You will be driven from the airport to the pier of Labuan Bajo where you will set sail on an air-conditioned cabin boat to Rinca Island. It is a trip that should take no more than 2 and a half hours. Once you arrive at the island, a local ranger will take the lead to bring you on a trek through the typical dry forests of Rinca Island.
On your trek you may come across a variety of wildlife like deer, water buffalo, long-tailed macaques, pigs and numerous species of colorful tropical birds. One notable animal that Rinca Island is popular for however is the formidable Komodo dragon. The Komodo dragon is the largest living species of lizard on earth and has a strong whipping tail and venomous bite. Avoid getting too close to them and provoking them as they can chase you down and it may end in a fatal encounter.
As you trek along the trail, you should glance up at the overhead branches every so often and see if you spot a bird, macaque or even a young Komodo dragon in them! Once afternoon falls, return to the boat and set sail on the comfortable ride headed for Kalong Island. Sunset should be falling just in time for you to witness hundreds of flying foxes emerging from the mangrove forests. Enjoy your dinner onboard then settle in for the night on the comfortable boat.
Day 2 – Komodo Island / Pink Beach / Manta Point / Labuan Bajo
After your breakfast onboard, you will set sail directly to Loh Liang where the Ranger station of Komodo Island is located. The trip to Komodo Island should take about 2 and a half hours and pass through several smaller islands. Once you arrive, you will register for a basic trekking tour that brings you to see more Komodo dragons and other diverse wildlife. When you have completed your trek, go back to the boat and head for Pink Beach.
Komodo Island’s Pink Beach is one of seven pink beaches in the entire world. There is no question as to why then it is one of the top nature attractions at Komodo Island. The reason for its pastel pink shores is the tiny coral fragments that wash up on shore after microscopic animals have released pigment onto them. The red tiny coral fragments then mix in with the white sand to create the gorgeous soft pink shore that compliments the sky and sea.
Activities that can be done at Pink Beach is snorkelling, swimming or relaxing by the beach. If you choose to snorkel, you will get to see colourful tropical fish and coral. Later, head towards Manta Point by boat to observe large Manta rays gliding gracefully through the water. You can join them in the water by snorkeling. After your lovely lunch onboard the boat, you will then be taken back to Labuan Bajo harbor at late afternoon. Return to your hotel for a dinner and sleep.
Day 3 – Labuan Bajo / Denpasar
After your last breakfast at your hotel in Labuan Bajo, you will go off on an adventure through the city for some sightseeing before your return flight. Visit Batu Cermin (Mirror Stone) Cave, a limestone cave with reflective walls. Light that shines in through a large hole in the cave is reflected off the walls, creating the effect of a mirror reflecting light. You can also see stalactites, stalagmites and tunnels in the cave. Once you’re done exploring the cave, go to a local market, which will be your last visit in Labuan Bajo before your return flight to Denpasar.
