Tana Toraja Trip Itinerary
Day 01: Makassar – Tanjung Bira ( L/D )
You will get pick up at Makassar Airport/Hotel in the morning and we will start our journey to Tanjung Bira. The trip takes around 6 – 7 hours and we will stop in Tana Beru where we will have a chance to admire the skillful hands of Buginese in constructing traditional Phinisi ships. Tana Beru is the center of the Phinisi ship factory in east Indonesia. Lunch will be served en route at a local restaurant. Arrive in Tanjung Bira in the evening check-in into the hotel and dinner at the hotel.
Day 02: Crystal Water Adventure (B/L/D)
After breakfast, you will get pick up from the hotel/resort to the traditional harbor where we will catch a boat ride to the diving spot. A boat ride is approx. 30-45, once arrive the driving instructor will accompany you exploring this magnificent water. Seafood grill lunch will be prepared for you by the locals. In the afternoon back to the hotel, free program then dinner at the hotel’s restaurant.
Day 03: Relaxing at Paradise (B/L/D)
Today is a free program to enjoy the beach, sunbathing, or relaxing while reading a book. Later in the evening pick up by driver and guide to go to a local restaurant for dinner.
Day 04: Tanjung Bira – Sengkang (B/L/D)
After breakfast, we will continue our adventure to Sengkang. Along the way, we will stop at the Kajang tribe area. This is the home of one of the most distinctive forest tribes in Indonesia. In order to get into the village, we must be wearing special black clothes from top to bottom. The locals are extremely respectful to nature where they don’t use any type of technology and electricity. We will have lunch en route. In the afternoon we will visit the floating village in Lake Tempe. From the main road, we will take a small boat to visit the village that surrounded by wildlife and many types of birds. In the evening check-in into the hotel then later in the evening pick up by a driver and guide for dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 05: Sengkang – Toraja (B/L/D)
After breakfast, we will continue our adventure to Toraja. However, before we leave Sengkang we will visit a traditional factory that makes the famous Bugis Silk. This is the center of the silk weaving factory in South Sulawesi that known for its quality and colorful pattern. Lunch will be served en route. Arrive in the afternoon and check-in into the hotel where dinner will be served at the hotel’s restaurant. Free program and rest.
Day 06: Full Day Toraja Tour (B/L/D)
We will take you for a full day excursion in South Toraja, tour will start at 9:00 am. First, we will visit Lemo to find Tau-Tau and hanging graves. Then continue to the Sangalla area to visit the royal graves from the Sangalla Kingdom and then we will find the baby tree graves in Kambira. Before we leave Sangalla, we will stop by to visit a natural cave that locals use as a burial place in Tampang Allo. Next, we will visit the famous Toraja funeral ceremonies*. And in the afternoon we will visit Londa, a mystical cave area full of history. Lunch will be served in a traditional restaurant located in the middle of the paddy field. Before return back to the hotel, we will stop by a coffee shop serving the best coffee in town. Return back to the hotel at around 5:00 pm.
Day 07: Full Day Toraja Tour (B/L/D)
We will take you for a full day excursion in North Toraja, tour will start at 9:00 am. First, we will visit Kete Kesu, a traditional Torajan village surrounded by a rice field that famous for its wood crafting. From here we will visit Bolu Market where you will find iconic animals such as Torajan White Buffalo, Torajan Coffee, and another fresh produces. Then continue to Lo’ko’ Mata a huge square-shaped rock that locals use as a burial place then short trekking to Battutumonga. Along the way, you will see a beautiful view of rice fields, mountains, and local villages. We will arrive in Battutumonga where lunch will be served whilst enjoying the view of Rantepao and other surrounding areas. From here we will visit Bori, an ancient site full of megalith stones and commonly use as a buffalos sacrifice area. After Bori, we will stop at the Rantepao market as the center of Toraja souvenirs. Return back to the hotel at around 4:30 pm.
Day 08: Toraja – Makassar (B/L/-)
We will depart in the morning at around 9:00 am for Makassar. Along the way, we will stop in Bambapuang for a coffee/tea break while enjoying the breathtaking view of the mountains. Next, we will have lunch in Pare-Pare. Small harbor city famous for grilled seafood. After lunch, we will visit traditional fisherman port where you can see how the locals process their catch that was catch using Phinisi boats. Later we will visit Buginese houses in Pangkep. In the evening drop at the airport to catch your outbound flight.
