Bird Watching Tour

The tour covers many natural bird sanctuaries in Sri Lanka. A number of endemic and epidemic bird species inherent in the country. Higher bio diversity makes home for wonderful animals world where you can experience at the same time.

Day 01

Arrival

You are warmly welcome at your Airport Katunayaka. You can have a comfortable journey to hotel in Colombo. You can rest all the day after a long air journey in the hotel, Overnight stay at Hilton Colombo or similar hotel in Colombo.

Day 02

Proceed to Kandy

Following dawn makes you warm with a natural fresh tea and delicious breakfast before the journey begins. you can watch Muthurajawela marsh, during the morning hours. It is a wetland at the southern end of Negombo. Boat ride along the lagoon is a good experience for bird lovers. In the evening drive to Kandy, Overnight stay at The Golden Crown or similar hotel in Kandy.

Day 03

Kandy City Tour & Udawattakele Forest Reserve

Pickup at 7.00 a.m. from your hotel place then drives to Pinnawala elephant orphanage, to see milk feeding & elephant bathing. When come back to Kandy on the way you will visit royal botanical garden, which is covered by colorful flower plants, herbal plants, endemic and epidemic plant species and palm family trees all-inclusive more than 4000 varieties can be seen here. The world’s giant bamboo tree species are found only here. There are more than 100 variety species of ferns and the largest variety of orchid flower plant as well as lotus and water lilies are grown in artificial ponds in the garden. Then you will be heading to Udawattakele forest reserve, which is popular among foreign tourists for bird watchers, Overnight stay at The Golden Crown or similar hotel in Kandy.

Day 04

Proceed to Kitulgala

Walking around the kandy lake starts around 6.00 A.M. and it takes 02 hours to complete entire lake round. Bird species, Bat varieties and fish species bring you wonderful experience to the nature lovers. 

Travel to Kitulgala and enjoy water rafting. If you are above 10 years of age, you can feel exciting experience of water rafting in the Kelani River at Kitulagala in Sri Lanka. Well trained and experience coaches would guide you in the rafting with all the safety equipments and safety guards. It is about 5km still water and another 05 km covers major and minor rapids. This is an incredible experience you should never missed in Sri Lanka. In the evening you can explore the Belilena a prehistoric cave complex to find some unique bird species, Overnight stay at Palmstone retreat or similar hotel in Kitulgala.

Day 05 & 06

Proceed to Hambantota

You can visit Makandawa rainforest in Kitulgala for another bird watching experience and move to Hambantota.

Proceed to Bundala National Park

This is a full day bird watching experience at the Bundala National Park. Bundala National Park is internationally recognized as a wintering ground for migratory water birds in Sri Lanka. About 197 bird species can be found here. Therefore, we advise you to make good use of your entire day at the Bundala National Park, Overnight stay at Shangri-La's Hambantota Golf Resort & Spa or similar hotel in Hambantota.

Drive to Tissamaharamaya. You can see wonderful Rawana Ella waterfall soon after passing Ella. Rawana Ella is the widest fall in Sri Lanka as well as it is more attractive By 1.30 p.m. you can join Yala safari , it is an interesting and most popular event among tourists as Yala is the second largest  wild life reservoir in Sri Lanka. It contains a higher density of leopards population a national park in the world. If you are lucky you can catch leopards in to your eyes. Stay overnight in Tissamaharamaya.

Day 07

Proceed to Kalametiya Bird Sanctuary

Drive to Tangalle. Next destination would be Kalametiya Bird Sanctuary. The journey begins by 4.00 P.M. by a catamaran for about 2 hours. While moving towards Mangroves, Coastal Lagoons and Scrub Lands you can watch many residential birds, migratory birds, and endemic birds. The area is a natural land scape for bird watching and nature photography, Overnight stay at Anantara Peace Haven or similar hotel in Tangalle.

Day 08 & 09

Proceed to Sinharaja

The next bird watching tour begins early in the morning at Sinharaja rain forest. There are about 280 different kinds of bird species find in Sinharaja, including 34 endemic species. Therefore, make sure to schedule whole day to explore birds at Sinharaja, Overnight stay at Rainforest Ecolodge or similar hotel in Sinharaja.

Day 10

There are no itinerary plans and you are dropped back to the Air Port according to your flight departure time.
