Night Freetour Pirates and stories from beyond the sea in Vigo

Description

Guided walking tour at sunset through the streets of downtown Vigo. The core of the visit will be pirates and sailors, but we will also address other topics linked to nighttime in Vigo. This visit complements the daytime tour of Vigo.

To start off, the famous Sireno (Male Mermaid) will welcome us at the central Porta do Sol, which will be the starting point of our overseas stories. The city of Vigo cannot be dissociated from the sea and it has been the target of several civilizations that have reached it through the Atlantic Ocean and deeply influenced the city: Vikings, Englishmen, Turks... We will talk about all these civilizations and how the city of Vigo has evolved over the centuries, merging their history with that of the people from Vigo.

The tour will take us all the way up to the old castle of San Sebastián, depicted in the blazon of the city, a spot that offers one of the best sunset views of the whole Vigo estuary. In addition, the cobbled streets of the Old Town will disclose many stories of the city.

We will also explore some sea legends, as Galician culture has always been deeply intertwined with the sea. And of course, we will talk about pirates and corsairs, from the famous Francis Drake to our local pirate, Benito Soto. You may have never heard about him, but one of the most famous poems in Spanish literature will surely ring a bell.

We will also deal with other important figures for Spanish sailing history, such as Casto Méndez Núñez and the mysterious Pedro Madruga.

Join us to enjoy a night walk through the streets of Vigo and discover the traces left by great sailors linked to Vigo and the rest of Galicia.
