This hands-on class introduces you to wagashi, traditional Japanese sweets enjoyed throughout the year and closely connected to seasonal events. Wagashi are valued not only for their taste but also for their artistic appearance.

During the lesson, you will:

Learn about different types of wagashi and the basic ingredients used

Hear an explanation of the day’s menu

Watch a demonstration and practice making the sweets yourself

Enjoy the sweets you made along with a cup of matcha green tea


Example menu (seasonal and subject to change):

Spring: Sakura-mochi (cherry blossom rice cake), Hanami dango (three-colored rice dumplings)

Summer: Milky Way yokan (jelly dessert), Shiratama anmitsu (agar jelly with rice-flour dumplings and syrup)

Autumn: Ohagi (sweet bean–coated rice cakes), Daigaku-imo (candied sweet potatoes)

Winter: Warabi-mochi (bracken-starch jelly), Yuki Usagi manju (snow rabbit sweet bun)
