San Leo Cashmere: Farm Experience

Description

Guided tours at San Leo Cashmere start from the stable, where you can get to know the goats. Here we tell you what the main activities of the farm are, the life cycle and the period of the year in which the precious fleece that we will collect in May is produced.

The protection and surveillance of the flock is entrusted to our 3 guardian dogs of the Maremma/Abruzzo breed Lea, Argo and Nina, while the work of managing the flock is entrusted to the border collie Brando, trained in the practice of sheep dog, with his help. we will give a short demonstration of flock management.

Afterwards we move to the yarn laboratory, where we describe some phases of cashmere processing, such as manual combing of the goats, washing the raw fiber in cold water with natural detergents and drying it in the air, de-gassing, carding to arrive at the yarn cone. Products made from cashmere will then be shown: neck warmers, gloves, hats, sweaters, stoles, items for babies and children. We create tailor-made garments.

We conclude the visit with a snack based on typical local products: pecorino cheese, salami, bread from the San Leo bakery and seasonal fruits, water and wine to spend relaxing moments in the garden.
