Discover the spirit and beauty of Japanese calligraphy in a quiet corner of old Tokyo.
This 60–90 minute hands-on class takes place in Yanaka, a charming historic neighborhood near Ueno, known for its peaceful atmosphere and traditional feel.
Using brush, black ink, and rice paper, you'll learn how to write selected Japanese kanji characters — perhaps your name, a favorite word like “love,” “peace,” or “dream,” or a character that speaks to your journey in Japan.
Your instructor will guide you step-by-step, starting from how to hold the brush to how to form each stroke with mindfulness and flow.
No prior experience or Japanese knowledge is needed. The experience is suitable for adults and children alike, and it’s a perfect break from sightseeing — meditative, artistic, and deeply cultural.
🖌️ You’ll take home your own calligraphy work — ready to frame or gift — as a meaningful souvenir of Japan.
