John has been described as a renaissance man in walking boots, hugly entertaining, engaging and passionate about Connemara, who can mix ballads of bawdyness with a speakeasy stress while taking you on a journey through the magnificent landscapes of the west of Ireland.
A farmer, archaeologist and a member of various national conservation projects and heritage breeds. John and his wife run a farm of 80 acres with a number of rare breed cattle and ponies. He has worked on many interesting and varied archaeological projects in the west of Ireland including the Croagh Patrick excavations and several here in Connemara. He has guided for many of the leading travel companies, independent travellers and private groups. He has featured in written travel press, BBC and radio.
Know before you go
Walkers:
Please bring/wear good walking boots. Warm layered rain and windproof gear as the weather can be quite changeable. Drinks, snacks and a packed lunch for the full days activity. The choice of walks will depend on the weather conditions on the day. If conditions are poor, the guide reserves the right to choose an alternative route or pospone the walk altogether. Safety first always. Whatever the weather, it is extremely important walkers come prepared.
