Local ham tasting and the walled city of Este

Description

The Prosciutto Veneto Berico-Euganeo DOP, was already known in the fifteenth century and cited in several works, among the best known the "Libreto de tute le cosse che se manzano" by Michele Savonarola. The ham of the Euganean Hills is described as a delicacy with an elegant, lively and full flavor, with a color that is rosy when cut: a characteristic that derives from a careful selection of the raw material, from the meticulous verification of salting times and doses and from strict controls during the maturing phase .

With this tour you will get to know a well-known producer of the area who will guide you in visiting the company's laboratories to learn about the manufacturing processes that make it possible to create this excellent product. Finally, you will have a tasting of the well-known and precious salami… Literally at 0 km!

Este is one of the most important walled cities in the Veneto region. Lying at the foot of the Euganean Hills, Este was the main settlement of the ancient Venetians who already inhabited it in the Iron Age. An important Roman colony, it was then an imposing medieval fortress, built by the Este family and enlarged by the Carraresi. Today the walls remain with a perimeter over a kilometer long. The two remaining main towers enclose a splendid public garden. The historic center will welcome you with Palazzo Mocenigo where the National Atestino Museum is located (one of the most important in Italy for its pre-Roman collections) and Villa Kunkler, which hosted Byron and Shelley. Among the numerous religious buildings we remember the Cathedral of Santa Tecla, which preserves the uncorrupted body of the blessed Beatrice d'Este and the grandiose altarpiece by Tiepolo depicting Santa Tecla who intercedes to free the city from the plague.

Este is also a famous center for the production of high quality artistic ceramics, whose manufacture has continued almost uninterruptedly from prehistoric times to today.
