Eagle’s Nest Tour

Description
Experience a great half-day trip to the famous and historic Eagles nest. After leaving the city of Salzburg you enjoy a scenic drive through the Bavarian alpine regions which brings you directly to the bottom of the Eagles Nest (Obersalzberg).
From there a bus will take you on a most spectacular 6.5 km long road with a 22 percent gradient up to the Eagle's Nest, to an altitude of 1.820 meters. The road to the Eagles nest is a masterpiece of roadwork and unique in the world. It was built within a short 13 months period and blasted into solid rock with an altitude difference of 800 meters in only one hairpin bend. Therefore in 1952 the road was closed to public traffic and is only reachable with special busses, equipped with exclusive engines and brakes.
The top of the mountain is reachable by foot or with a fascinating golden brass elevator taking you in only 41 seconds another 124 meters up into the residence building itself. Explore the historical building, which was used as Hitler´s former residence during Second World War including the famous fire place room and get a deeper inside about this interesting and ancient site.
Afterwards you have some free time to stroll around and discover the alpine fauna and flora and walk to the summit cross nearby and enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of the Bavarian and Austrian Alps! Before heading back to Salzburg, you have some free time to explore the picturesque little town of Berchtesgaden and savor some typical Bavarian specialties.
In case the Eagle’s Nest is closed for any reasons, the tour will include a visit to the Obersalzberg Documentation Center/ bunkers instead.
