Departing from your hotel with a private guide and vehicle, embark on a tour of Reykjavik to uncover the city's most fascinating sites. Catch beautiful views of Reykjavik's landmark mountain, Mt. Esja, most visible from the northern waterfront. Admire the stark and modern City Hall, standing proudly on the shore of Reykjavik's small central lake, Lake Tjornin. Spot the 19th-century Althingi, home to the world's oldest parliament, and see the stark white Hofdi House, built in 1909, the location for the historic 1986 summit, which effectively marked the end of the Cold War. You'll visit the iconic Hallgrimskirkja Church - the largest in all of Iceland. This mid-20th-century cathedral is Reykjavik's main landmark structure, its peak visible from almost everywhere in the city. Out front, you can spot an impressively intimidating sculpture of Leif Erikson, donated by the United States in recognition of the discovery of the New World by Norse explorers from Iceland. Your tour will also include visiting one of Reykjavik's celebrated museums, the National Museum, displaying objects that provide insight into Icelandic cultural history. Time permitting, you can visit the Asmundarsafn Sculpture Museum, featuring works by celebrated artist Asmundur Sveinsson.
