Turku: Turku in a nutshell & Castle of Turku
Description
On this tour we start exploring Turku and get to hear about the history, architecture, culture and current events of the town. Experience the former Finnish capital’s almost 800-year-old past and get to know about e.g. today’s universities and industries. We will also visit the Cathedral of Turku.
At the end of the tour we visit the Turku Castle
Turku Castle is a more than 700-year-old historical monument. It has stood guard over the river Aura estuary since the 1280’s.
Originally the castle was a military fortress. At that time Finland was a province of Sweden, so the granite stone walls hold within them the history of Finland and Sweden.
