From Granada: Alpujarra full day trip

Description

We will drive through exuberant virgin landscapes dotted with dazzling white villages; we will pass by hillsides with terrace cultivations and full of olive trees, vineyards and fields of almond and citrus trees.

The area has a fascinating historical legacy and is well known throughout Spain for the medicinal qualities of its waters. The Alpujarra is a large valley extending to the west between the southern foothills of Sierra Nevada, Sierra de Lújar, Contraviesa and Gádor, with the Mediterranean coast on its southern side. After the pick-up at your hotel we will go to the picturesque town of Lanjarón. This spa town is famous for its numerous fountains, each accompanied by a quote or poem by Federico García Lorca. Afterwards, we will continue towards Orgiva, capital of the region. Our tour will run alongside a sequence of dazzlingly white villages located in the middle of an emerald landscape unique to Granada.

We will pass by the towns of Caratuñas, Pampaneira, Pitres and Pórtugos as we go up to Trevelez, one of the highest villages in Spain with 1486 meters of altitude. Trevelez is also known for its exquisite air-cured Iberian hams. Then we will continue the trip to Bubión and Capileira, two villages hanging vertiginously on the impressive gorge of the Poqueira River.

We will stop here to enjoy a traditional meal from Alpujarra. You will have free time to explore this typical village of Arabic style full of narrow winding streets, flat roofs and characteristic chimneys before returning to Granada.
