Full description
Discover the natural wonders of Azerbaijan on a full-day tour from Baku. Visit the Gobustan National Park, see the mud volcanoes, and explore the Absheron Peninsula. Start your tour with a pickup from the Old Town entrance in Baku. Drive to the mud volcanoes near Gobustan, a landform created by the eruption of mud, water, and gases. Visit the Gobustan National Park, an open-air museum on rocky mountains on the Caspian Seaside. See more than 6,000 carvings on the rocks near the Caspian Seaside. On the way back to Baku, stop at the Bibiheibat Mosque, one of the major monuments of Islamic architecture in Azerbaijan. The existing structure, built in the 1990s, is a recreation of the mosque with the same name built in the 13th century by Shirvanshah Farrukhzad II, which was completely destroyed by the Bolsheviks in 1936. Continue to the Absheron Peninsula to see the Fire Worshippers’ Temple, Ateshgah. The temple was built over a pocket of natural gas that fueled a vent providing an ‘eternal’ fire which Zoroastrians used to worship. Later, visit “Yanardag” – “Fire Mountain”: a natural gas fire that blazes continuously on a hillside on the Absheron Peninsula near Baku which itself is known as the “land of fire.” Flames jet into the air 3 meters from a thin, porous sandstone layer.
