Skaftafell Beyond The Limit - 6 hour Adventure

Description

Skaftafell is a beautiful nature reserve in Southeast Iceland, filled with spectacular natural wonders. You will explore one of these wonders on a glacier outlet of Vatnajökull glacier. Vatnajökull is not only Europe’s largest glacier, but it is also home to the highest mountain range in Iceland. Your tour will start at Hof, where you will meet your highly qualified glacier guide 20 minutes before departure. Once you arrive at the spot, your guide will provide you with all the necessary gear – helmet, crampons, harness, and ice axe (some companies do not provide all the essential safety gear: please be aware of the importance of wearing a safety helmet to protect your head during the hike!). Once geared up, you will begin your journey towards the glacier.

After a short ride on the “Tröll Bus” and a brief walk to the glacier, your guide will explain how to use your gear and the safest way to walk on a glacial surface. Falljökull is a glacier outlet from Vatnajökull, and its name translates to “The Falling Glacier.” The icefall in the area is quite rare on Earth, and the further you go, the more breathtaking the ice formations become. These include crevasses, deep cracks in the glacier's surface, and moulins—vertical shafts in the ice formed by melting water finding its way into fissures

and cracks. In wintertime, it is often possible to peek into small ice tunnels and capture the stunning blue heart of the ice. You will spend about 4 hours on the glacier itself, with your guide leading you through the most thrilling and challenging parts of the glacier. Along the way, you will also get the chance to use proper glacier equipment, including harnesses and ropes, to navigate more challenging terrain, enhancing your sense of adventure.
