Small group Chianti wine tour and San Gimignano at sunset with dinner from Siena

Description

Experience the blooming heart of the Chianti wine region and its flavours! The gathering place is at Siena’s Basilica of San Domenico at 2:30 p.m., which is a breeze to find if you are coming from another town or driving with your own vehicle. There are parking facilities available in the nearby area. Convene here with the driver guide who will accompany you for this tour. Our itinerary commences in the afternoon when we drive through Chianti with its large numbers of oaks and cypress trees, orderly vineyards and landscapes which have been sculpted by both Mother Nature and man into exquisite artworks. We arrive at a Chianti winery where we make our way around the grounds and wine cellars and find out about the art of making wine, before having a sit-down tasting of Chianti Classico wine and olive oil. We then proceed down the hill to Monteriggioni, which is a feudal and well-maintained fortress, with an entire set of walls and towers, that was erected in the thirteenth century as recounted in Dante’s Devine Comedy. Monteriggioni was Siena’s primary stronghold of defence against Florence’s attacking armies, today it is a tranquil and quaint village. Later that afternoon, we arrive in San Gimignano where, with a little luck, the crowds of the day have already departed. In Gimignano we will explore this stunning and dreamy town at a relaxed, unhurried pace. Enjoy your free time where you can visit the Civic Museum or the Cathedral, the artisanal workshops where they produce leather and hand-painted works of pottery, or simply enjoy some retail therapy. Perhaps you will be fortunate enough to taste the home-grown fruits of the region, sample the local wine at a wine bar, or discover the hidden gems this town has to offer. After our visit to San Gimignano we leave the town and head to an organic farm where we are spoiled with a Tuscan dinner, the brilliant Vernaccia white wine of San Gimignano and the delicious red wine of Chianti. Should the weather be agreeable, we will dine on the veranda which has views of the farmland as well as panoramas of a sunset-streaked San Gimignano. During adverse weather conditions or colder winter months, we will enjoy an indoor dinner.
