Highlights Tour

Description

It begins at Ahu Akivi, where seven restored moai statues stand inland, providing insight into Rapanui history and the mysteries surrounding the construction and transportation of these iconic figures. Next, visit Anakena Beach and Ahu Nau Nau, significant as the historical hub of Rapanui civilization and the landing site of the island’s first Polynesian voyagers. After soaking in the beauty of Anakena’s golden sands and palm-fringed shores, continue to Ahu Tongariki, home to the largest lineup of moai on the island. Here, fifteen colossal statues stand tall, restored to their former grandeur after being toppled during the islanders’ upheaval in the 18th century.

Explore the volcanic crater and stone quarry of Rano Raraku, where thousands of moai were crafted, with over three hundred still in various stages of completion. As the day winds down, traverse the rugged south coast road before ascending to the expansive crater of Rano Kau, the island’s most breathtaking natural wonder. Enjoy the late afternoon light while visiting the ceremonial village of Orongo, where an annual competition once determined the island’s Birdman and ruler for the following year, showcasing the island’s rich cultural heritage and historical significance.
