Bike Tour to Antigua Villages from Guatemala City

Description

This tour is named for the Almolonga Valley - just west of Antigua - which was home of the 2nd Capital of Guatemala - Ciudad Vieja. The old city met a fateful doom in 1541 as a result of a terrible mudslide released from the crater of Agua Volcano. The city disappeared in the valley between Agua, Fuego & Acatenango volcanoes; however, the exact site of the old city is still the source of much debate...  

This tour is designed specifically for travelers who want to get in touch with local people and travel of the beaten path. The adventure begins in Antigua, where you will understand the meaning of this magical and captivating small city.  

You will have a brief view of the city and will continue visiting each town with a bilingual guide. Visit to Ciudad Vieja (second capital of Guatemala), a macadamia farm in San Miguel Dueñas, a sustainable agriculture project, Santiago Zamora and San Antonio Aguascalientes famous for their textiles and weavings.  

· Escape Antigua for the day and tour the countryside by mountain bike  

· See ruins one earthquake away from extinction  

· Visit Lorenzo's experimental macadamia farm at Valhalla – a sustainable agriculture project  

· Explore the villages of Santiago Zamora and San Antonio Aguas Calientes, famous for their textiles and weavings
