Oasis, hailing from Manchester, England, formed in 1991 and quickly became one of the most defining bands of the Britpop genre. The classic and most recognized lineup featured Liam Gallagher as lead vocalist, Noel Gallagher as lead guitarist and principal songwriter, Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs on rhythm guitar, Paul "Guigsy" McGuigan on bass, and Alan White or Tony McCarroll on drums at different stages. Their signature sound fuses classic rock and roll with a modern attitude and lyrics that often reflect British working-class life and aspirations. They have sold over 70 million records worldwide.
