Vuokatti: Net fishing and ice fishing trip to Lake Nuas
Description
An unforgettable day with local guides on a fishing trip from the shores of Vuokatinmaa. This unique adventure uses traditional winter fishing methods.
The fishermen are experienced net fishers on their own lake, so the chances of catching fish are quite good. We use both nets and traditional rod-and-worm fishing, known in Finnish as pilkkiminen, which is a form of ice fishing.
Fish caught with nets include various species, mainly burbot, pike-perch, pike, and perch. When fishing with a rod and worm, perch is the most common catch, but with skill or luck, you might also catch pike-perch. Traditionally, we drill holes in the ice, a skillful process needed to set up the fishing lures.
To reach the fishing spots, we travel either by sled pulled by a snowmobile or on foot with snowshoes from the shores of Vuokatinmaa. During the trip, we enjoy trail snacks and hot drinks by the campfire.
If we are fortunate enough to catch some fish, there may even be an opportunity to prepare it at your cabin or by a campfire, creating a true connection with nature. This is a perfect adventure for those looking to combine the thrill of winter sports with the joy of fishing and the beauty of the winter outdoors.
