Red Clogs Down the Five-Foot-Way, A Chinatown Walk

Description

This walk through Singapore's Chinatown is a combination of so much that is great and unique about the neighbourhood. Learn about the fascinating history of this community whilst you get an introduction into the yins and yangs of Chinese traditional medicine at a Traditional Chinese Medicine Store.

Stop at Thian Hock Keng Temple and visit a Chinatown Wet Market along the way. Check out a funeral shop catering to typical Chinese funeral rituals and you will be astonished at the beauty of the elegantly restored shophouses at Ann Siang Hill, a small hill with a big history.

Most of the houses in Ann Siang Hill and along Ann Siang Road were built between 1903 and 1941 and are definitely worth having a look at. Ann Siang Road, a one-way road today, was once the traditional home of clan associations and exclusive social clubs.

Also, located within three beautifully restored shophouses on Pagoda Street is the Chinatown Heritage Centre. This is an award-winning museum experience that must not be missed as it provides visitors with a magnificent glimpse into the lives of Chinatown's early residents and so much more.

This tour conveniently begins when you meet your Guide at 9.30am (no later please) outside Exit A (Cross Street) at Telok Ayer MRT Station.

For your ease, the tour will finish near to the Chinatown MRT Station on Pagoda Street.
