Kirkwall Shared Small Group North Orkney Brochs and Legends

Description

Delve into the past on our Small Shared Group guided tour of Kirkwall.

Our Driver-Guide will lead you through The Broch of Gurness, a drystone building dating back to around 200BC, and tell what has been learned of this ancient structure and its old inhabitants since its unearthing in 1929. We spend 30-40 minutes here and is ideal for a photo-stop as well as learning some of the beliefs and thoughts from your Driver-Guide.

We then head to the centre of Orkney to view the stunning Ring of Brodgar, a landmark dating back to the early Bronze Age. Your Driver-Guide will discuss possible theories about these ancient standing stones, and those like them across Britain. Were they a prehistoric meeting place, a method of mapping the heavens, or something stranger still?

This is a Half Day Tour
