Tokyo: Asakusa Chopstick Workshop
Description
Step into a serene artisan studio tucked away in the charming streets of Asakusa, Tokyo’s historic heart of tradition and craftsmanship. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll experience one of Japan’s most beloved cultural arts: crafting your own pair of wooden chopsticks.
Guided by a skilled local craftsman, begin by choosing your wood and learning how to shape it using traditional hand tools. Carve, smooth, and refine the chopsticks to your ideal form, then apply natural oil to bring out the grain and give them a warm, polished finish.
As you work, your instructor will share the cultural stories behind chopsticks in Japan—from dining etiquette to the symbolism of craftsmanship in everyday life.
At the end of the session, take home your handmade chopsticks, beautifully wrapped—a meaningful and personal keepsake of Asakusa’s artistry and spirit.
