Despite that Sofia is very young as the capital of a country it has a very long and dynamic history. You will be lead through it by our highly educated guides and also with the help of two museums – The National Archaeology Museum and Sofia History Museum. In the first one, you will learn about the ancient heritage that Bulgaria has and from the second you will learn about our 20th century monarchy period when Sofia became the center of our country. Also during the day tour, the remains of the Roman city of Serdica will be revealed by visiting the Roman ruins, St. Sofia church, and the rotunda of St. George. Other highlights will be Alexander Nevski cathedral, the symbol of the city, the monarchy palace, Sofia University main building, a piece of art from the very late 19th century, the parliament and of course the Communist administrative center, the stunning view of the “Horseshoe” and the legacy of “The Bells".

The tour will start with a morning pick up from your hotel/accommodation in Sofia at 9:00. First, we will show you Sofia from above. We will drive with the car up to Vitosha mountain and will reach an old chair cabin lift station, from which you will admire a great view of the city and the surrounding mountains. Our next stop will be at one of the most interesting and significant monuments from the Communist period- park "The Bells". It was constructed in 1979 by the daughter of the last Communist leader of Bulgaria by the initiative called "The flag of peace". Children from both sides of The Iron curtain were meeting each other and making bells which are presented in the park.

We will continue our journey to the National history museum. This will be a great introduction to Bulgarian history. You will learn how intense was life on the Balkans and how ancient is our nation.

When we finish, we will head toward the historical center of Sofia. We will visit one more museum- the Sofia history museum where you will learn about our 20th century monarchy period when Sofia became the center of our country. During this full-day tour you will visit Rila Monastery and Boyana Church –both of which are part of UNESCO world heritage list.

Situated deep in the dense pine forests of Rila Mountain, Rila Monastery is the biggest and most important Orthodox cloister in Bulgaria .It is an outstanding example of the Bulgarian cultural and historical heritage, in which architecture and painting merge harmoniously. The site is part of UNESCO world heritage list. Rila Monastery was found in 10th century by St Ivan Rilski, a hermit canonized by the Orthodox Church. His ascetic dwelling and tomb became a holy place and later on a monastic complex was formed. It played an important role in the spiritual and social life of medieval Bulgaria.
After the guided visit of the Monastery complex and lunch, we will head back to Sofia. One the way we will stop at the second UNESCO site for the day Boyana church. Small but unique with the most preserved frescoes from 1259 on this part of Europe.The tour will end with drop off at your hotel/accommodation.

The city of Lovech is located in northern Bulgaria, approximately 150 km from Sofia. It was continuously inhabited since Thracian times. One of the main sites of Lovech is The Hisarya Fortress, built during the First Bulgarian Empire (681-1018 CE). The city kept its importance during the time of the Second Bulgarian Empire as well. Lovech continued to develop in the period of Ottoman rule and become the most significant commercial center in the country. Highlights from this period are Varosha Quarter- reserve located in the old part of the town. It includes more than 160 restored houses which help create an authentic atmosphere carrying visitors back to those 19th century days.
18 km northeast of Lovech is located Devetashka Cave - a picturesque karst cave. According to archeological research, it sheltered people since the late Paleolithic era. The cave is a protected landmark of national and international significance and has been declared a monument of culture.
Krushuna Waterfalls (approx. 16 km from Devetashka cave) is one of the biggest cascades in the country, dropping at a height of 20m. A narrow eco-path will take you up steps, along several bridges, passing small natural water pools amongst the mossy, limestone rocks.

Asen's Fortress is situated on the top of a cliff in Rodopi Mountain, at approx. 20 km distance from Plovdiv. It is a Medieval fortress with a rich history and breathtaking view.
Bachkovo Monastery - The monastery was founded in 1083 by Prince Gregory Pakourianos, a prominent statesman and military commander in the Byzantine service, as a Georgian-dominated Orthodox monastery. Although the monastery survived the first waves of the Turkish invasion in Bulgarian lands, it was then looted and destroyed, but restored near the end of the 15th century. The refectory, whose mural paintings by an anonymous painter bear a significant artistic value, was reconstructed in 1601 and the Church of Mary, still preserved today, was finished in 1604.

In this one day tour, you will have the chance to get acquainted with the communist period (socialistic period) in Bulgaria. The socialistic republic of Bulgaria existed from 1946 until 1989. This is one of the most controversial parts of modern history. But one thing is for sure - like any other political system, communism (socialism) bequeathed us both things that we would like to forget and others that we can admire.

Our trip will start with pick up from your hotel at 09:30. First, we will visit the Museum of Socialist Art in Sofia. There we will have the chance to see over 70 works of monumental sculpture, exhibited in a park covering 7,500 sq.m. On a special pedestal, the large five-pointed star that once crowned the former Party House in the center of Sofia is on display.

When we finish our walk in the museum we will continue the trip to our next destination - Buzludzha monument, which is one of the most notable from the socialist period After approximately a 3-hour scenic drive we will reach Buzludzha monument. It was erected in 1981 to commemorate socialism. Work on the monument began in 1974 and was undertaken by units of the Bulgarian Army assisted by numerous artisans responsible for the large statues and murals. After the government’s fall from power in 1989, the site was abandoned and left open to vandalism.
