Things to do in Rovaniemi

We will start from Rovaniemi and drive around 20-40 km away to reach the best spots.
During the trip we will build up a campfire and fry some sausages while fishing. If we get big enough catch, we can fry that too and have a nice meal!
Photographic opportunities are around us all the time and the river areas offers an ideal setting for landscape photography. 

On this tour, we drive to a place far away from the light pollution of the city and enjoy wonderful views of the starry skies. Sitting by the fire while cooking sausages you can search for the Northern Lights. If you're lucky, you'll see this incredible spectacle in the polar sky.

Our guide checks weather forecasts in different locations around Rovaniemi and will decide the best possible location to travel to based on weather predictions. Our experienced Northern Lights hunter will also frequently check the aurora activity predictions throughout the duration of tour. During the drive to the primary location, we may spot the Northern Lights ahead of us and your guide will often make one or two stops on the way to our chosen location.

Once at the selected location we will build a warm and inviting fire, where we will grill sausages in the traditional Finnish style. Vegetarian options are also available upon request during booking. There are also snacks and hot drinks ready to help keep you warm inside while we wait for the magical Aurora Borealis to make it’s appearance in the Northern Sky.

The zoo is approximately 1 hour south of Rovaniemi by car. Upon arrival, you will take a stroll through the zoo, where you can see the interesting animals and birds that live at the "top of the world!!". You will be able to dine in the cozy restaurant, visit all kinds of souvenir shops including the Fazer candy/chocolate shop and the wine shop, where they sell unique wines made from wild berries found locally, such as cloudberries, lingonberries and bilberries.

We will be far from the city light and enjoy wonderful night sky! We will search northern lights and discover a magic of snowy forest. Besides, we will make wishes for the next year! Stay next to fireplace with a breathtaking winter view and also in cosy finnish cottage. We offer you sausages, vegeterian pies, hot drinks and sweets. If you want, you can take alcohol drinks with you. We will enjoy a party in christmas style!

On this tour, we will take you to the best locations around Rovaniemi to experience and photograph this amazing phenomenon. Tour is scheduled so that we are able to photograph the best moments of Arctic midnight!

The locations we will take you to offer great scenery and nature around us. We will photograph forests and wilderness areas to be able to get authentic landscapes under the midnight sun. During the tour, we also set up a campfire and eat some fried sausages while experiencing the nightless night.

Please note: We highly recommend that you bring your own DSLR camera to our tours, as we cannot guarantee that you are able to take night photos with compact or phone cameras. 

Local & Organic Food Experience in Rovaniemi

The dinner experience is held in a private venue, and, accompanied by the chef, you are able to discuss local recipes and engage in conversations about life beyond the Arctic Circle. The Lampivaara Amethyst Mine is a fascinating travel destination all year round. The amethysts of Lampivaara fell were born 2 000 million years ago, deep in the bowels of the ancient mountains.

The amethyst mine is open every day between June and September, in October and in Winter  it is open from Tuesday to Saturday. During the guided tour you will learn about the geology that created the amethyst, their properties, the history of the mine and some of the uses of amethyst. After the tour, each visitor will be able to try their hand at digging for their own personal lucky amethyst!

At the end of the visit there will be some time to drop by the small Amethyst Shop on site, where amethyst from the area in the form of jewellery and other decorative items is for sale.
