Finland - Rovaniemi

Looking for an easy and just a little bit sporty activity to do in Rovaniemi? Take a ride on electric assisted fatbikes to the top of the Ounasvaara hill!

This trip is perfect for people new to mountain biking. As long as you can pedal a normal bike, you are ready to enjoy the trip! Our special e-fatbikes make even uphill riding easy and fun on the snowy winter trails!

We’ll start the trip from Hostel Cafe Koti. In just few minutes we arrive in the snowy, silent forest of Ounasvaara. We bike to the top of the hill and back to the city center in the forest roads and trails. The required skill level can be adjusted a lot according to your biking skills from an easy-going cycling road to a narrow winter trail.

Things to bring: Sporty outdoor clothing

This experience starts with a visit to a traditional reindeer farm located into the Arctic Forest. Once you'll get there, a local family of herders will introduce you to their work and how they ensure the wellbeing of reindeers. After the introduction you'll finally be able to enjoy a relaxing sleigh ride while you look at the snowy landscape.

During the break, you'll be able to taste some snacks and warm drinks and receive your reindeer driving license.

Your journey starts with pick-up from your location and transport to the completely private area.  Drive from Rovaniemi city centre takes approx. 30 minutes. The sauna is located between 2 Finnish lakes.

Search for the Northern Lights with our professional Aurora hunters. Our guide will forecast weather conditions to determine the best spot for sightseeing this mesmerizing natural phenomenon. In order to keep yourself warm, it is possible to wear our recommended thermal overalls at no additional costs.

You are welcome to bring your own camera gears to record this mesmerizing moment. Our professional guides are trained photographers and will help you to adjust your own camera settings but also provide you with tips for taking great pictures. Don’t worry if you do not have your own camera, the guide will take pictures for you. The photos' link will be provided by email afterwards which will be available for 14 days since the tour date..

Remember that the Northern Lights is an unpredictable natural phenomenon that nobody can 100% foresee. However, our professional guides and forecasting tools allow higher chances of sightings.

Our Private Northern Lights Hunting Tour is designed for those who wish to have a more personal experience in searching for the celestial Aurora Borealis, with photos included.

For this tour we use a 4 x 4 Mitsubish Outlander. Being that we use a smaller vehicle on this tour, it is perfect for 2 to 4 people (plus 1 or 2 kids) maximum. A perfect choice for Honeymooners, film and photography crews or a private family outing under the Northern Lights.

The tour is approximately 3 to 4 hours in duration and includes a fire and bbq with sausages or vegetarian options upon request at time of booking. Also hot drinks and snacks. Door to door pick up and return from your accommodation.

During our Private Northern Lights Hunting tour our guide will share stories of life in Lapland and also background of the area and the Northern Lights. 

Be aware that viewing the Northern Lights is dependent on weather conditions and Aurora activity levels. Our guide monitors weather and Aurora activity before and during our tour to make the best efforts to locate a good location. 

Also dressing according to weather conditions is VERY important for this and ANY tour in the Lappish wilderness. Warm boots, double socks (one pair wool is best), minimum double trousers (thermal base layer and weather and windproof outer layer) and a three layer system of long sleeve thermal base layer shirt, a fleece or down second layer, and a down or synthetic insulation parka or winter coat for the outerwear. It is easier to remove layers than to be caught outdoors without proper protection from the elements. 

Welcome aboard our Private Northern Lights Hunting Expedition !

This exciting snowmobile excursion takes place beyond the Arctic Circle into the wilderness. After the guide will provide you with safety instructions, you'll be able to drive your own snowmobile for about 1 hour. Throughout your ride you'll get to see beautiful natural landscapes covered by snow and during the break you'll get a chance to warm yourself up with hot drinks and cookies as well as take awesome pictures.

Children under 140cm will sit on a sledge pulled by the guide’s snowmobile. Instead, children over 140cm could seat on the snowmobile behind the driver if the full price for adults is paid.

Every day a huge number of letters arrive at Santa’s Main Post Office. In 1994 Santa received 200,000 letters and just four years later, 800,000 letters! Santa’s elves sort all the letters and help Santa to read every single one of them. Then at Christmas or on New Year’s Day, under their Christmas tree, excited children all over the world delight in finding the exact toy or game they have for from asked Santa Claus!!!

Santa Claus Village is the most magical place all year round, for both children and adults alike!! There is something for everyone here. After posting letters at Santa's Post Office, you can buy gifts and souvenirs. In winter you can experience the excitement of a short safari in a sleigh pulled by reindeer or huskies, ride a sledge downhill and taste hot glöggi (mulled wine) in the Ice Bar.

Of course, you will meet Santa Claus and share with him your dreams and wishes. There are so many things to do! Don't forget to cross the Arctic Circle! Take a photograph of this important event and remember to get your certificate to prove it!!

Our tour continues at Santa Park - a unique, themed amusement complex built in a cave deep inside the Syvasenvaara fell and opened to the public at Christmas 1998. Enjoy theatrical performances, side-shows, games, exhibitions and souvenir shops. Maybe enjoy a drink in the Ice Bar and immerse yourself in the magical atmosphere of the Christmas fairy tale, New Year adventures and amazing Lappish culture.

Experience this drive north past the Arctic Circle (20-30mins away). One of our guides will help you strap in your snowshoes and show you the skills to face heavy snow. From there you'll be travelling on foot through the virgin forest to the destination: the frozen lake. Our guide will teach you how to catch fish and drill a hole into the ice with our special tools and local techniques. While you're enjoying ice fishing, our guide will light a campfire and prepare a Lappish light lunch. Although grilling the fish caught from the lake is possible, many decide to catch and release.

For children too young to wear snowshoes, sleds (toboggans) will be provided.

Come on this 2-hour tour outside Rovaniemi, and you’ll get a big appreciation for prospectors who arrived here more than 100 years ago: this water is seriously cold. Korouoma is a 30 kilometer long geological fracture valley in Posio. It is a part of a fracture zone in the bedrock, which is hundreds of millions of years old. At the center of Korouoma the fracture valley forms a gorge with high cliff faces. Small streams which cascade down the cliff faces in the summer, freeze into beautiful frozen waterfalls during winter, making Korouoma the number one ice climbing destination in Finland.

Your excursion starts with pick-up from your hotel or apartments and transport to the lovely lake. The drive will take less than 30 minutes. You don't need any experience or special skills to come with us on this tour, just a sense of adventure. Please bring the recommended clothing, backpack, and camera and we’ll provide everything else. Families with children or those looking for a mellow time in the Lappish nature will enjoy this tour.

Upon arrival we will learn how to heat a Finnish sauna, usually, this process takes about 90 minutes. As soon as the sauna reaches the necessary temperature - it's time to go to the cottage.

Enjoying a sauna is a personal thing, you should always listen to your body and do as you feel best. There is no one right way to bathe in the sauna. For the first time, you could stay in for five minutes, depending on the temperature. After cooling down for a few minutes, go into the sauna again and stay a bit longer. When you come out of the sauna, you can just sit down and admire the beauty of nature around you. 

The feeling of hunger is strong enough after truly “Lappish SPA procedures”, which is why you will have an amazing and traditional Blazed salmon dinner (or vegetarian food) in a warm and cosy cottage, right near the fire.
